About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

About the team: Compass' C-RENT team provides San Francisco families with financial assistance to prevent eviction or pay for move-in costs on a new home. Families are also provided with long-term case management to support them in becoming economically self-sufficient and maintaining their housing.

Compensation: $30-33 per hour, equivalent to an annual salary of approx. $58k-$64k.

Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, primarily during standard working hours

Location: 37 Grove St, San Francisco. Primarily in-person; option to work remotely one day per week after first three months.

What the Housing Coordinator will do:
The Housing Coordinator will build capacity within Compass programs to support families to obtain housing. This includes developing workshops and giving presentations, collecting and sharing resources with staff, and working directly with families on housing search. The Housing Coordinator must understand the complex housing market in the San Francisco Bay Area and have a track record of helping people obtain stable housing.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead weekly housing workshops.
  • Create a housing resource bank and resource guide.
  • Work collaboratively with case managers from all Compass programs to support their clients in obtaining housing stability.
  • Help clients through all stages of the housing search process, including support with finding units, completing applications, interacting with potential landlords, signing a lease, and identifying and applying for assistance with move-in funds.
  • Develop connections outside of the organization with affordable housing agencies, landlords and property management companies.
  • Provide crisis intervention, community and support services, information and referral, family budget assistance, and advocacy.

The Housing Coordinator should have these skills:

  • Fluency or a high level of professional proficiency in Spanish required.
  • Strong understanding of the housing sector in the San Francisco Bay Area, including both affordable and market rate units. Experience working in housing strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with people in crisis and demonstrated understanding of issues facing homeless and low-income families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship-building, networking, and ability to develop trusting relationships with a diverse set of individuals.
  • Outstanding work habits: punctuality, communication, reliability, cooperation, organization, professionalism. Ability to work independently and to juggle many responsibilities concurrently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). Salesforce experience a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $30 - $33 per hour; equivalent to approximately $58,000-$64,000 per year based on a 37.5 hour work week
  • Paid time off: just under 4 weeks of vacation your first year, just under 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.
  • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
  • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests over years 2-5.

Location and Covid safety:

  • Work location: The Housing Coordinator will primarily work at our main office at 37 Grove St., less than one block from Civic Center BART/Muni. After three months, they have the option to work remotely one day per week.
  • Covid vaccination required for all staff.
