About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

About the team: Compass Family Resource Center offers trauma-informed services to families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Families can access immediate crisis support and get connected with resource referrals, case management, groups and classes, and support with job searches.

Compensation: $24-29 hourly

Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, primarily during standard working hours

What the Case Manager will do:
The Case Manager provides intensive, family-centered support to families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This includes addressing challenges with: childcare, housing, mental health, substance use treatment, employment and career development, education, parenting support, budgeting, and/or maintaining permanent housing. The case manager also facilitates groups, manages donations, and provides crisis counseling.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide case management services to families including: program enrollment, assessment, goal setting, long-term case-plan development, weekly case plan development, progress monitoring and advocacy and referrals.
  • Meet with clients weekly, with a mix of remote meetings, in the office, and in the field.
  • Connect families with community resources. Follow up with clients and providers as appropriate to encourage progress and document use/success of referral.
  • Input accurate and complete data for all contacts with clients into agency database, funder reporting databases, and client files.
  • Assist with development, outreach and facilitation of groups and classes.
  • Help to provide a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for clients and prospective clients.
  • Provide drop-in counseling and crisis intervention to clients coming to the FRC.
  • Assist with activities such as childcare, donations, coverage of front desk and support with community activities, groups and workshops.
  • Share rotating responsibility for health and safety of client reception area.

The Case Manager should have these skills:

  • Fluency or a very high level of professional proficiency in Spanish required
  • Experience in counseling/case-management, including crisis intervention
  • Experience working in a social services setting.
  • Understanding of issues facing homeless families and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of Bay Area housing and social service resources.
  • Ability to assess and de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work.
  • Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and internet searches.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $24 - $29 per hour based on experience, languages spoken and education. Equivalent to $47,000-$57,000 based on a 37.5 hour work week.
  • Paid time off: just under 4 weeks of vacation your first year, just under 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.
  • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
  • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests over years 2-5.
  • This is a non-exempt position.

Location and Covid safety:

  • Work location: The Case Manager will primarily work at our main office at 37 Grove St., less than one block from Civic Center BART/Muni. After three months, they will have the option to work remotely one day per week.
  • Covid vaccination required for all staff.
  • Covid precautions in the workplace: required masking in some spaces, air filtration, cleaning/sanitizing.
