About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.
About the team: C-Cares is a scattered-site permanent supportive housing program which helps families experiencing homelessness to find housing, pay for housing, and connect with resources and services that enable long-term stability. This program serves 235 families annually, with a team of 19 people including case managers and supervisory staff.
Compensation: $85,000 - $94,000 annually plus generous benefits
Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, primarily during standard business hours

What the C-Cares Program Director will do:
The Program Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the services provided by the C-Cares program . They oversee a team of 18 people, manage an annual budget of over $8 million, and represent these programs both internally and in the larger community. Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide direct supervision and support to Assistant Program Directors and Case Managers. This includes hiring, onboarding, training and professional development, evaluation, and ongoing supervision.
- Ensure that programs are on target to meet organizational and funder goals and requirements, and that program rules are implemented fairly and consistently.
- Ensure that all clients feel strongly supported and receive high quality services. Step in to support managers, case managers and clients when difficult situations arise and when staff members are absent.
- Assign new clients, manage caseloads, and strategize with case managers around challenging situations.
- Oversee the work schedules of case managers, including time in the field and on home visits.
- Collaborate with Impact + Learning team to monitor data quality for the program, and to utilize data to set program goals and engage in continuous improvement.
- Manage referrals, program rosters and data entry using the SF One System
- Collaborate with Finance department to construct annual budgets and oversee the responsible implementation of budget. Monitor subsidy spending and review budget projections to ensure that funds are fully expended over the course of each year.
- Collaborate with the Development team to complete grant applications for new and ongoing funding of Rapid Rehousing programs.
- Collaborate with the SF Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing and other homeless service providers around policy and program changes, advocacy, and funding.
- Represent the agency to the community, outside agencies, service provider groups, committees and funders.
The Program Director should have these skills:
- Required: direct experience as a case manager or counselor working with people who have experienced homelessness and/or other significant trauma
- Required: leadership skills and experience, including at least two years supervising other staff
- Proven ability to be oversee major projects or programs, track multiple work streams, and oversee the work of others
- Experience with successful program implementation and design
- Ability to assess and de-escalate potentially volatile situations
- Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization
- Desired, not required: Bilingual Spanish
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range: $85,000 - $94,000 annually
- Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave, time off for education.
- Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
- Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-6.
